About Me
I’ve been playing guitar since I was 12 years old and I started teaching my friends and other kids from school when I was still in my teens.
The guitar is a wonderful instrument and it has taken me all over, from high school battle of the bands, to university where I studied the instrument, to performing across Europe, to songwriting in Nashville, playing festivals and hearing myself on the radio. I’ve met lots of wonderful people and I’ve been lucky to have lots of unforgettable experiences.
My Approach
Learning an instrument at any age is a great idea and a fun endeavour. I teach personalised lessons on acoustic and electric for beginner and intermediate learners. My style of teaching is informal and based on the musical styles you want to learn. We’ll talk about your goals and cover all the basics of guitar playing including:
Rhythm Techniques
Chords
Lead Work
Improvisation
Ear Training
You might have a good idea of what you want to learn or you might not, both are fine. Part of learning an instrument is exploring different styles of music and that’s also part of the fun of it. Everything you need will be provided including an online space where you can access your lesson notes, music and exercises.
As a working musician I have lots of other skills I’ve picked up over the years. I also specialise in songwriting and recording/production, so if you’re interested in either of those areas, I’m happy to teach with that in mind. If you’re working towards a performance or school exams I can help with that too, many of my previous pupils have gone on to further education in music.
Where and When
I teach one to one lessons from my home studio in Kirkcaldy and I have a few spaces open at the moment on Thursday and Friday evenings.
Prices
Lessons are £32 per 50 minute session, this includes any sheet music, notes and exercises. Discounts are available for 4 weekly block bookings.
Lessons are suitable for ages 11+
